What is Go Live in Communities?

Go Live is GHL Customer Care’s built-in live session experience for Communities. It lets admins host interactive meetings or broadcast a professional stream directly into any group or channel. Members can join instantly, chat in real time, react with emojis, and if enabled, watch replays later. Because it’s native, you keep attention inside your community and simplify setup for hosts and attendees.

Go Live offers two modes:

  • Meeting Room Mode: An interactive, many-to-many live room with host controls, chat, reactions, hand raise, screen share, and dynamic layouts (Grid/Speaker).
  • Stream Software Mode: A broadcast experience that connects to external tools like OBS, Zoom, or StreamYard via Stream Key & URL while viewers watch and chat inside your community.

Key Benefits of Go Live in Communities

These benefits focus on outcomes—stronger participation, simpler workflows, and content you can reuse. Use the bullets below to decide when and how to use Go Live for your programs.

  • Native experience: Members join on web or mobile without chasing links or installing extra tools.
  • Two flexible modes: Choose interactive meetings or high-quality broadcasts based on your format.
  • Built-in engagement: Real-time chat, emoji reactions, and hand raise keep sessions lively.
  • Host control: Mute/unmute, grant/revoke mic/video/screen share, remove attendees, and switch layouts.
  • Recording & replay: Optionally capture the session and share a replay for those who missed it.
  • Device flexibility: Preview your camera/mic, choose input devices, and switch as needed.
  • Keeps attention in-platform: Centralizes discovery, attendance, and follow-up inside your community.

Meeting Room Mode

Use Meeting Room Mode when you want face-to-face collaboration—coaching calls, cohort workshops, or office hours. Everyone is present in the same space, with the host managing who can speak, present, or share screens.

Highlights

  • Preview camera and microphone before joining.
  • Distinct Host and Attendee roles with granular permissions.
  • Live text chat alongside video.
  • Chat supports link sharing, file pasting, and drag-and-drop uploads.
  • Chat has no message size limit.
  • Screen share (window or full desktop).
  • Emoji reactions and Raise hand to request the mic.
  • Dynamic layouts: Grid for collaboration, Speaker for presentations.
  • Multi-participant support for panels and roundtables.
  • Optional recording so you can post a replay after the session.

  • If you want a fresh key, reset your Stream Key (for example, if you shared it accidentally).

Image 15 of 15 What this coversYou can host or join Go Live sessions from the GHL Customer Care mobile app. This lets you run live meetings or broadcasts without switching devices. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between Meeting Room and Stream Software modes?

Meeting Room is interactive—great for workshops and coaching. Stream Software brings in a broadcast from tools like OBS or Zoom while members watch and chat.

Q: Do members need to install anything to join?

No extra installs are required. Members can join from supported desktop browsers or the GHL Customer Care mobile app when signed in.

Q: Can I record a session and share a replay?

Yes. When recording is enabled, a replay can be shared with your members after processing, so anyone who missed the live session can catch up.

Q: Can I restrict access to live sessions?

Yes. Host Go Live inside private channels or paid groups so only the right members can join. Pair with Community Events for scheduling and reminders.

Q: What if my encoder won’t connect in Stream Software Mode?

Double-check the Stream URL/Key, confirm you selected Stream Software Mode, and start your broadcast from the encoder. Test a few minutes before showtime.

Q: Is there chat moderation?

Hosts can oversee chat during the session, remove disruptive participants, and manage speaking permissions to keep the event smooth.

Q: Can I bring in guest speakers?

Yes. Invite guests to join and assign host/speaking permissions during the session for full control.

Q: Who can download Go Live recordings?

Post authors and group admins can download recordings.

Q: Why didn’t my session record?

If a session ends due to inactivity, the app shows a message that the session wasn’t recorded due to inactivity.

Q: Do I need a new Stream Key every time I go live?

No. Stream Software Mode uses a persistent Stream Key, so you can reuse it for future sessions. You can reset the key if needed.

Q: Is there a maximum number of participates or maximum amount of time you can go live?

No. There is not a cap on the number of participants or a maximum length of a stream.
